Not Much to it, Not worth the time or money
First course played in three years. This is a no frills course, but perfect for a novice. The price is appropriate and the staff is very helpful and friendly. They are obviously spending a lot of money to improve fairways during the off season; looking forward to playing again this summer.
Just played here for the first time, although overall course is in need of work, the value is outstanding. As a new golfer I will use this course to refine my game.
The fairways are a little below average. The rough is horrendous. The greens are very good - after a month of very hot temperatures. Now that their court battle is over and they can build a clubhouse and improve the fairways, it should dramatically improve!
I have played city golf courses for free that were in better shape than this place. Worst course in Hampton Roads that I have played. Entire course is a mixture of dirt, sand, gravel, weeds, only about 3/4 of the playing area is grass, if that. Until now I never considered leaving a golf course in the middle of play. I broke four T's just trying to put them in on the concrete-like T-Box. The putting greens should not be called greens. There was more sand than grass. There was actually some comic relief when I would come upon a "no carts" sign. You could drive the entire course to include the putting sands with snow chains and not make it any worse. What a joke.
This is a a very good value. Course is well laid out and good shots are rewarded. Greens in very good shape for a long hot summer. This two year old course will be a very good course in another year. Fairways are wide and well kept.
I played nine holes here yesterday with three other buddies and the ENTIRE TIME I had to listen to low-flying jets overhead (the course is built near a Naval Air Landing field). The sound was deafening and DID NOT STOP. One plane, right after the other... Completely ruined the experience for me.The course wasn't bad, although in some areas, the ground was too hard to put a tee in. Thankfully, the greens fees were cheap. And for the record, the EPA said there are no environmental concerns with the fly-ash.
