Played Hilltop 5 times now. It doesn't drain well and some of the rough is brutal, BUT it is a fun challenge. There are several par 3's but they are varied in length from PW to 3/4 iron. They vary the longer holes and 7, 8, & 9 are as good as you'd see at a full-size course. Great scenery overlooking the valley, very picturesque. I really recommend this for a quick 9 after work. The attached practice facility is great and includes 2 tier range with bunkers.

My group recently came to this course for the first time while on an outing in the Alexandria area. I was FOOLED by the average reviews and great pictures on their website. This course was in the worst condition I've ever seen. I've played a great deal of golf courses in the northern VA and DC area and this is one of the worst.

It's called Hilltop for a reason as it's built on an old garbage landfill. The course drainage is terrible and we couldn't even hit most of our tee shots and second shots without sinking into the ground (it didn't rain the day before). It's only a 9-hole course and there are at least four par-3 holes on it. We played from the black tees and the longest hole is still only a bit over 400 yards.

This is my first ever review on a course, and I felt it was necessary after my group was let down the way we were. We were rudely greeted by the pro-shop staff and followed on every hole by the course marshal/ranger for no reason. DO NOT PLAY THIS COURSE, unless you enjoy watching bulldozers pushing around trash/dirt or the view of the methane gas towers. Your golfing experience will be much better at any of the other courses in the area.

Very scenic, nice executive course, played 18 in less than 4 hours. Course sits atop a landfill, don't be down wind of the vents! There are no trees, no shade to duck into. I resent being sold on the course on the phone and at the counter, and then told, after I've paid, that it is "cart path only". That practice reeks of dishonesty in my book. I won't be back!

I played this course today, trying to get back into the game. Great course for anyone, I got paired up with 2 guys at different skill levels. We had a great time, round took about 2 hours. Fairways were clean, Greens were in great shape, 1 tee box was closed (#6) so we had to play behind white tees ( no big deal) Sandtraps were hard and wet, not sure why because no rain lately. #1 and #2 short par 3's, good warmup for #3. #3 might has well be a par 5, straight up and plays very long. Great view from the tee box on #4 ... a couple of long par 3's and average par 4's finish up the course...i used pretty much all the clubs in the bag, and i felt like I was able to work on all parts of my game...I will definitely return, the staff was very friendly, and really liked the range.

They do offer rental clubs, but they are not very organized with them and are old and not in good condition. The course itself is fun, but not in great condition as of March 2010.
