I returned to this course after iplaying here when it was new and lovely. I'm SO sadly disappointed in the way the previously beautiful scenic ponds have been trashed! They are now ugly sludge holes and breading ground sess pools for Mosquitos & other biting bugs. Whereas before the ponds were clear and full, which cooled you with the breeze, they look like they've been mostly drained and are filling with gawd-awful swamp plants, slime, sludge, and scum!!! Do NOT reach your hand in to retrieve your ball even if you can see into the murky puddles! Then there's the storage dump to pass by - delightful! - and I was imagining the vermine in there. What a shame. AVOID!
Just played Heron Lakes today for the first time since they reopened the new greens. Looks and feels like a new course. Proshop girl said they have new carts coming next week which is good because they do need them. The greens could be rolled a little smoother but overall I was very pleased to see all the improvements. Pretty good location for me so I have been waiting to try it out.
Great course for those of us that are in between jobs, or in need of economy golf. I paid $15.00 Its a short and tight course, a good place to practice your irons, leave the driver in the car as this course will test your accuracy. While you will read a lot of compliant's here that are true, the greens are slow and bad, there are a lot of bare spots in the fairways, but it beats beating balls on the range and if you can hit the greens here you can hit them any where in the areas. I hear there are $9.00 green fees on the net but I have not found it.
I should have known not to go when I heard it was $15 to ride. This should be a par 3 course. I played 7 holes and ran to my car. If you have any knowledge for golf DO NOT PLAY THIS COURSE.
Bad golfers delight! This course is basically a s@%#hole, but at least they know it and the price is right. I mean you won't find a better value around. It is right ON the beltway. I haven't checked but surely someone on Beltway 8 has died by now from getting hit by some shankers tee shot. The course is narrow, but very short. If you can hit the ball straight, if only by accident, your ball will roll on this course. Top it, blade it, don't matter as long as its straight. Because it will roll... we call that "Texas golf". To the point of hilarity actually. I've only played here a couple times, but had some great laughs. It was very dry, and saw a guy use a putter from 20 yards off the green, and there was an 8-foot deep ditch in his way. Just went right through it, it was awesome. And saw a tee shot take its first bounce about 20 yards in front of the tee box and then about 20 bounces later, roll up onto the green on a par 4. You just don't see that every day.NOTE: As of winter 2010-'11, they were doing some renovations on this course, but I doubt it improved dramatically.
Friendly staff. I just don't care for the layout of the course. Very narrow fairways, small greens. The property is too small for 18 holes. This is more of an "executive" style course rather than a traditional layout. Would have been better as a 9 hole course, I think.
Recently went to play at this course and was shocked at how low the prices were. It is amazing to me that they can charge $10 for a round of golf. Its makes it difficult to play anywhere else in town. Not to mention the staff has always been accomodating and eger to please. FYI: Good thing they sell cheap balls cause your going to need em'. The course is a doozy-tough.
