This is a family run course with a friendly atmosphere and reputation for first class course conditions. Has multiple tees and large greens and some scenic challenging holes for the better player and some more wide open shorter holes from the forward tees for the average player. If you are looking for a good value and memorable round this is your course.
I will start off by saying Great Value! This course is just outside the big city, so it offers a little peace and quiet in the countryside, but still is conveniently located. I have played Northern Links since it was built, and I can say that it improves every year in some way, shape or form. Whether it be with added trees, bunkers, tee boxes, or water hazards, there is always something going on to enhance the course or clubhouse area. You will not find more perfect grass than at Northern Links, period. I personally know the family that runs the course, and you won't find nicer people, willing to accomodate. Sure there will be days where there are group outings, or where they are busy and need people to pair up to get everyone on, but what course doesn't have that? I will certainly continue hitting the Links this year and keep coming back for years to come.
I used to enjoy playing Northern Links. Lately, though, their customer service seems to be missing. They seem to discourage the single. Several times I tried to get on as a single only to be turned away. The last time I tried as a single I was told that the foursome (mother, father, 2 kids) still hitting their approach shots to 9 were going around again so I couldn't get on #1. The last time I was there as a threesome. They had some kind of outing going on--a bunch of non-golfers hitting to the wrong greens, standing in the fairway chatting with the group 2 holes ahead of them. I asked the clubhouse guy if he could talk to them. He refused. Needless to say I will never be back to Northern Links.
