I played Brandon in July '12 and was not as impressed as I had expected. I could only play the front due to a women's league beginning on the back nine. I found the front nine to be very boring and typical of a muni. Not one front pin placement on that nine holes which I thought was weird. Trees guarded you from other holes that ran parallel to yours. Lack of fairway yardage signs were disappointing too.
The rates were too high for 9 holes as well - $30+.
Maybe I caught this course on the wrong day as everyone else seems to enjoy this course so take my review with a grain of salt.

Brandon Municipal has perhaps the nicest closing hole view in the area. The 18th green is backed by a green-covered hill on top of which sits the beautiful clubhouse. The 18th fairway has trees lining the left side. I have golfed here several times and have always found the staff to be friendly and helpful. The course is well-maintained. As for playability, water comes into play on several holes. There are some sand bunkers but they generally pose little problem. The par 4 and par 5 holes are all fairly short with several par 4s playing 320-330 from the middle tees and the par 5s as short as 465. The fees are on the lower end of those charged by 18 hole courses in the area. This is a nice course to play.
