This is the type of course that tries to make up for a severe lack of distance with overly sloped greens. Plenty of 90 degree doglegs at weird distances from the tee box and trees blocking approach from the tee or to the green. Plenty of holes where O/B is in play. However, they keep the course in pretty good condition and the greens seem to be kept at least a medium speed. Price is nice and worth a few rounds a year if you are within a 30 minute drive or so.
It's a nice course with some challenging holes. Usually maintained well, the layout is reasonably interesting. The 15th hole doesn't fit the rest of the course - it's a minuscule par 3 that seems like an afterthought and since flooding last year, with the subsequent closure of a bridge, reaching the hole necessitates a ridiculous detour. But there are some very enjoyable holes, it's a pretty area, the restaurant/bar is actually very nice. For the price, it's an excellent value round.
This course is a hidden gem. For the $20 to walk on a weekday, for the condition it is in is second to none. Many of the holes are unique and the scenery is spectacular, not to mention it's in the middle of nowhere so it's nice and quiet. It's a challenging course and the greens seemed pretty fair to me. They have logo balls, another plus. I really write fair reviews, some good, some not so good, but I can't find one thing wrong to say about this course. Overall rating an A.
