Played here as part of an outing this past weekend and the course, staff, restaurant and overall value was so good, I had to write a review. Extremely interesting design with every hole different from the next; FWs were well-kept; the greens were running true but very contoured. Breathtaking views of the surrounding area. I’m not sure where the bad reviews could possibly come from, unless people are blaming the course for their bad play. Admittedly, the course is difficult with lots of elevation changes and uneven lies. If you are a beginner or wild off the tee, you will be punished. But it generally takes playing more than once to figure out how to play this beast. I played here for the 1st time in the Spring and got my @$!*% handed to me. I had to come back for revenge and that I did, 98 to 86. Stopped at the 19th hole after the round (Vintage Restaurant and Bar) and tried both the buffalo wings and the sweet sriracha wings. Banging. My only disappointment was that there’s no range except for a big net to hit into. Previously played Architect’s Golf Course right down the road, and I thoroughly enjoyed myself more here. And the difference in value is insane. $50 rate for this on a weekend vs $100 plus? No contest. A must play, but bring you’re a game.
Very demanding layout. Severe elevation changes, large but sloping fairways, blind tee shots, and many undulating greens with swails ,gullies, and strategic bunkering make this course not recommended for beginners and those that cannot legitimately break 100. The pro shop is nice and clean and the personnel are very friendly and helpful. The course is always in great shape and the scenery is the best you can find in the Lehigh Valley. During the day the rates are a bit steep but the twilight rates are equal or better than what you would find at your local muni or muni like courses. Twilight is mostly when I play at Morgan Hill and there really is nothing like playing into the sunset on a warm summer evening with the breathtaking scenery this course has to offer. An absolutely must play for the better player and the under 20 handicap.
This place should be called the Club at Morgan Mountain. Every hole is severely uphill or severely downhill which makes it extremely challenging. Unfortunately the challenge also results in slow rounds.
Honestly, I'm not sure whether other reviewers have ever played a hill course before as there's so much complaining about blind tees, elevation changes, etc. Maybe it was too challenging? Maybe they should play Green Pond or Wedgewood or some other course that's flat and easy? In my view, Morgan Hill represents not only one of the most enjoyable rounds in the area, but also a terrific value - $30 twilight? For a course that definitely keeps you on your toes at all times, that's got excellent groundskeeping, views that are fantastic, and a layout that really is unique? All those sidehill holes, the steep tees, and blind zones make the course interesting. If you're a beginner, then yes - it's apt to be an ego-bruising round. But for a golfer who wants something more than the usual former rectangle of farm field that's been stuffed with acres of side-by-side monotony, this is nirvana. The only detraction I can see is continuing construction (or unfinished earth moving?) that visually degrades two holes, #3 & #4. Otherwise it's very nicely done. I've never seen anything but courteous service. It sounds to me like a lot of the complaints below had nothing to do with "golf" and everything to do with "social outing". If you're out to play golf, does it really twist your knickers that you can't bring a cooler?? Gimme a break, guys...
I played this course recently with a 8 person outing. It was our second round of the day, so we played a best ball scramble. We played on Friday afternoon for a twilight rate of $45. We had played Architects earlier in the day, so not getting raked for another round was a welcome surprise. The course is beautiful and well maintained. The vistas, on almost every hole, were remarkable. As others noted before there are some drastic elevation changes; the course is built on a small mountain. Although these elevation changes provide stunning views, the golf is so-so, dare I say almost gimmicky, especially if it is your first time playing here. Most shots off the tee are blind or at extreme elevations. The course does a good job setting up aiming flags at the top of hills for the blind shots. Overall, this course needs a couple of rounds to get used to and fully enjoy. Also of note, we had lunch at the club house. There is a good selection of sandwiches which everyone in the group I was with enjoyed.
