The Watkins Glen Golf Course is a hidden gem in the Finger Lakes region of New York. This nine-hole public golf course is nestled in the hillsides of New York wine country and offers a glimpse of natural beauty at every turn. Seneca Lake is visible on most of the holes with a backdrop of mature trees and rolling hills. The scenery is enough to want to visit the area, but the course is pretty special, too.Watkins Glen Golf Course is a par-36 course that measures 2,812 from the furthest back of two tees. Don't let the fact that this is a nine-hole course fool you; it's not an easy layout with new challenges on every hole. Only a couple of the holes offer a straight shot from tee to green. Several ponds are also scattered throughout the course, and along with the rolling terrain, offer additional challenges. While the course isn't easy, it is still a fun option for new golfers. Bring a few extra golf balls, take a cart (because all of the hilly walking will affect your game) and enjoy the views as you play. The signature hole on the course is the par-4 ninth hole, a sharp dogleg right with a risk vs. reward tee shot. Golfers can either hit a long iron or hybrid club off the tee and leave a short iron into the green or attempt to hit driver over the tree line on the right and go for the green. The problem? A pond guards the right front of the green. No matter how you score on the hole, the breathtaking Seneca Lake serves as the perfect backdrop.Stop in the clubhouse after your round for a cold drink and excellent views of the course and lake from the patio. The staff at the Watkins Glen Course is very friendly and accommodating. They are quick to respond to requests and are always welcome to feedback to continue to improve the course. One of the biggest surprises is the cost to play the course. Play nine holes with a cart for just $25, a very reasonable price for the area. Check their Facebook page for other deals and specials throughout the golf season. We highly recommend Watkins Golf Course for the fun layout, great views and top-notch hospitality.
