Great course and friendly staff. Slow play. It was 5 hours
What a waste of $! I had to pick my own range balls starter was rude course in horrible shape. Does anyone at this public facility know how to repair divots or ball marks! Nice layout but wouldn't play here for free
I played this course for the first time getting a relatively low rate through golfnow. I was very impressed by the condition of the course. The greens were some of the best in the area, firm in spite of the rain, reasonably fast, relatively ball mark free, and rolled true. The fairways were carpet like, and if you find them, you are assured of a good lie.Bunkers were raked and sand was obviously well maintained. Many holes are tree lined, but hitting areas are mostly generous with difficulty increased by the relatively narrow fairways surrounded by thick fairly deep rough (deep enough so that the ball sits down in it, but not so deep as to make it difficult to find your ball).Drainage must be good because even with all of the recent rain (it had rained the previous 2 days), there was very little mud or standing water. As mentioned by a previous reviewer, multiple tees make it playable for almost anyone and the layout is challenging but fair. There are very few completely straight holes which I find adds to the visual interest (a couple of blind driving areas that were not difficult or deceptive) and the pin placements and Jack Nicklaus design create fair strategic challenges. However, big hitters can pull the driver out on almost every par 4 and five so it is definitely not "target golf."Pricy if you pay full listed rates, but if you can get a reasonable, deal highly recommended.
Wow. Played for the first time this week and was very impressed with the course. Our group of women usually play in NJ, but heard great things about this course from our friends. The trip was only 35 minutes which I thought would be farther out for some reason. I also thought the golf course was a private course but it was not a full private golf course. This course for us women was very woman friendly with how they position tee boxes since they had 4 or 5 seperate tee boxes. The greens were the niceset I have played anywhere this summer, and took some getting used to since they were faster compared to what we were used to. This course was difficult even with the tee boxes forward for the women. I think male golfers would consider this a very difficult course because of how they would have to play their tee shots. The staff was very nice and friendly, especially one of the maintenance workers who got off his machine to help us find a ball one of us hit into the woods. They had some maintenance workers working on bunkers on a few holes with heavy machines. It looked like they were renovating a few bunkers and the ones they had finished were the nicest I have played out of. This course was so nice and for us seniors we only had to pay $55 during the week and that included the cart. My women's group will be frequently playing Mansion Ridge going forward. This was such a great find.
One of the best layouts on the East Coast. When I am in NYC for business I always take a zip car to play this course its only about a hour away from midtown. You have to hit golf shots here it is not a easy course. I have shot a 85 and have also shot a 102. 5 tee boxes make it playable for everyone. I played with some seniors this past spring after a night of heavy rain and it was very difficult for them on a cart path only day. Long forced carries, great greens, and lots of decisions to make with shotmaking. #9 gets me every time one of the most difficult holes you can play. They are renovating their bunkers with that really fabulous white sand which gives the course a real "wow" factor with the ones that have been completed that you don't see anywhere except maybe Florida. I can't wait to play the course again when I am back in the city to see when it is completed. One of my favorite courses on the East Coast!
Poorly run. Not very welcoming staff. Late start, Sand traps were un-kept. Slow pace of play, no ranger , Dog and Bud at "the turn" (#11) cost $7.50. Then tax and a glaring look when you don't leave a tip. A tip? Hot dog and Bud $7.50! If this is what you get downstate, you can have it.
Quite possible the worst managed golf course on the east coast, which is truly sad given how nice the course is. From talking with others, our experience was not out of the norm. We arrived at the club expecting semi-private club and $130 green fee treatment. Instead, as we pulled up, no one was as bag drop to help take the clubs (not really a big deal). Our tee time was 1:44, 5.5 hours to get in the 18. Walk into the pro shop and we're told we probably wont get in the 18 because they are about a half hour behind on tee times. We were then told we should have expected this. There were no carts available, so you just had to take them from people coming off 18. Again, no one to clean them or charge them...all up to us. We saw three different carts die on the course between the group in front of us and 2 groups behind. We played the front 9 in 3 hours and 15 minutes. Not a single ranger out there to help with the pace, and this course just keeps pumping group after group after group. In 5 hours, we played 13 holes. 13!! Unlike any experience I have ever had at the worst of munis, let alone a place like this. When we got back in and complained, they were fairly nice about it but again told us in a sense that we should have expected it on a weekend. I'm sorry? A 6.5 hour round should be expected? We were also told that the rangers sometimes just go home. Just terrible management. The course itself is in great shape, extremely difficult, especially around the greens, and is a fantastic layout. Too bad the people running this place just do not care at all about the golfers. Avoid this place, especially on weekends, and especially at full price. Until they change management, hire new rangers, and spread out the tee times to a full 10 minutes apart, I would not play again.
