Good muny course. ..greens trampled from bring stampeded. Closer to the hole the more beaten.
A convenient, decent NYC muni course.Played Dyker Beach on a late January, 40 degree Sunday. The weather was a bit warmer than average, but still cool enough to keep most golfers at home. As such, we played Dyker Beach in just 3 1/2 hours! That is a rarety - summer rounds here can take up to 6 hours.Dyker Beach is a fairly straightforward, decent course. Best stretch of holes in my opinion are holes 4 through 8. Hole 4 is a downhill par 3 followed by #5, a dogleg par 4, #6, a slight dogleg par 5, then #7, a challenging uphill par 4 with a nice view of the Verrazano Bridge, then #8, a dipsy do par 3. There a few 400+ yard par 4 challenges (4 of them in all from the white tees - there is even a 400 yard par 4 from the ladies tees - a rarity), but otherwise the course is fairly straightforward and not very difficult.Check out www.golfzing.com for deals. Full price for this course with a cart is a rip - it is about $76, even in the winter, but you can find some decent discounts on Golfzing. We paid $43 for 18 holes plus cart. The course is fairly flat and compact and therefore easy to walk if you desire. One nice feature of Dyker Beach is its location in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn. It is only a three long block walk from the R Train, so city folk without a car can play this course without hitting up Zip Car.In summary, decent NYC muni course assessable by public transport, look for deals on www.golfzing.com.
