This course has potential, but management has run it into the ground. Tee boxes are beat up and uneven. Greens don't provide consistency.... I used to be a member here, but there are better options in the area.
UPDATE: Played BB twice since last review and found better conditions at tee box and greens. Happy to say it is looking great and more like we remember. Still no active rangers though to keep pace. Otherwise very pleased and at the midweek rates it is good value.
Since I live nearby, I have played Beaver Brook dozens of times. I golfed here in the winter, spring and summer. Because of the steep greens fees for a course of this quality, I typically only play twilight golf here. Basically, the quality continues to deteriorate. I am not quite sure how they justify the greens fees they charge in the morning, both on weekdays and on weekends. The course has the potential to be quite nice, but the tee boxes and greens need some severe maintenance. Greens do not roll anything close to true and the tee boxes are so uneven your feet are typically above or below the ball. Not to mention the large pool of standing water between 6 and 7 that provides an ideal breeding ground for mosquitoes. The lack of a driving range is a huge negative in my opinion. Some of the views are quite nice, but some of the others (i.e. having to compete with noise from route 78 on holes 6 and 7). The recent lowering of rates makes this course more attractive to those who are local and just want to get out and play. But, I caution everyone to think long and hard before they pay prime time greens fees for a course, that in my opinion, is sub par. There are nicer courses in the area (Heron Glen and High Bridge Hills) that provide an overall better value and round of golf. But, if you are looking to just get out and hit, the twilight rates ($29 for Hunterdon, Somerset and Warren County residents) are worth it.
I just played Beaver Brook and really enjoyed myself at the course. I thought the fairways were narrow, but the course played fair for the average golfer. If you are errant off the tee on most holes i felt you had a decent second shot, although not from the fairway. The course also featured many elevation changes, either off the tee, or to an elevated green. Furthermore, the greens were challenging as well.
