I liked this course. It is only 9 holes but it is very challanging and a good layout.
Granted I am a new golfer, so I have only been to The Refuge and Sunny Guy in Jackson. I like this course. I played 18 yesterday 6/13/13 and the customer service was great. Customer Service was always poor in the past, but a HUGE improvement! The warden on the course looks at you critically, but doesn't say much. The fairways are well kept. There was a television in the reception room with golf or ESPN playing that allowed me to cool down after nine holes. The bathroom is dark and needs renovating. It does have a shower in the men's room, but no lockers. They sold beer for $2/can or Poweraid for $1.50. You can refill your water/Poweraid bottle on hole 4 and 7 with ice cold water from a cooler. It was $12/9 holes with a cart and $5 for a basket of balls at the driving range. I went alone and scrambled with 3 guys I didn't know for the first 9 and then joined another guy at the clubhouse for the second 9. Overall, I was very pleased. The practice putting green near the clubhouse is not indicative of the course. There is a lot to be improved there. The putting greens were pretty bad on most holes as well. Lots of sand on the greens, but the grass was cut well. Hole 2 is very frustrating/challenging due to a huge lake. But overall 4 stars for value.
Course is in better shape now with new ownership. New employees are rude and more than willing to run off the one or two golfers that may show up on any given day. They decided to stop honoring coupons for the course that were previously sold before the ownership change - terrible customer service.
This course looks awesome from a distance. Once you get to the greens you find out they don't really maintain the course as a golf course. Greens are totally destroyed and near as I can tell not cut by a greens mower. Not one green had a surface you could putt on. It is only a 9 hole course but a real shame this course is left to deteriorate to this degree. It would serve Jackson better as a municipal park not a golf course.
