This is one of the most unique courses you’ll have the opportunity to play because it’s located on an Air National Guard Base. You can actually see the aircraft as you’re playing through the course. Since this course is on a base, there are special considerations for accessing the course. If you are active duty, a spouse, reservist or retiree you can get access with your identification of DODO CAC card. You can also gain access as a guest as someone in one of these classifications, but you must enter the base in the same vehicle. Otherwise, you can apply for a defence biometric identification pass (DIBS) and the process takes about 10 business days. It’s valid for one year. The process is clearly outlined on their website if you need more information. The course layout is very wide and open. In 1997, the course underwent a multi-million dollar renovation where over 100 dead trees were removed. The main hazards on the course are a handful of large ponds and a multitude of sand traps. There are 4 tee boxes on the course. Here’s a bit more detail on the more challenging holes. Hole #1 (372 yards) has 7 sand bunkers alone! Hole #6 (479 yards) will have you hitting over a large pond located at the end of the fairway in front of the green. Another large pond runs along the fairway on Hole #7 (right side, 315 yards.) Hole #9 (507 yards) has a sharp dogleg right with a large pond to the right. This course also offers extensive practice facilities. There is an 8,000 square foot putting green, a two tier driving range, chipping green, practice green and sand trap practice area. There is a clubhouse but it is currently closed as a Covid-19 precaution. You can eat before or after your round at Mulligan’s restaurant. For such a unique course, Selfridge Golf Club is a great bargain - it’s $26 with cart or $18 walking (Monday through Friday and weekends after 1:00pm.) There’s more than enough challenge to keep this course interesting, and it’s a completely different experience to be golfing right beside military planes.
