The Hi-Ground Golf Course at Cotuit Highground Country Club is a fun and challenging nine-hole executive course with excellent views of Cape Cod. Is it the best course you will ever play? No, but the charm and value make it one you will want to check out.

From the back tees, the par-28 course measures 1,245 yards and is much trickier than you would imagine for an executive course. The terrain is quite hilly and that's where the challenges come into play. Expect elevated tee shots to undulating greens where what appears to be a good shot rolls off into the thick rough. Play the course a few times and you'll learn the nuances.

Young players and beginner golfers can also enjoy the course from the front tees that shorten several of the more difficult holes.
There is just one par-4 on the course, the 260-yard third hole. The shortest hole is the 88-yard seventh hole.

While some spots around the course and not the best manicured, the greens are great and play true. The thick rough and lush trees really aren't a distraction on the course, instead add to the overall charm.

The staff at this family-owned course is always happy to help you and will gladly hook you up with a $20 pass that allows you to play as much as you want in a single day. There isn't a driving range on site, but they do offer well-priced snacks and drinks. Pull-carts are available and come in handy since the course is so hilly.

The course is rarely crowded so it's possible to play a nine-hole round in around an hour. Get it a try next time you are in the area.
