For those of you who read this, please ignore any old reviews. That course no longer exists. This course is terrific! The fairways and greens are in very good shape, the greens hold, and the course is challenging even from the short tees. But mostly, the layout and its associated water and landscaping is fantastic. Nearly every hole is pleasing to the eye and some are downright stunning. If I lived here, I would play Cove Cay exclusively.

I played Cove Cay for the first time on 8/23/20. I had an early Tee time (7:25a) so the fairways were still wet and unfortunately not a lot of roll. The greens are in real good shape but for my taste there’s too much water in play on almost every hole. Overall I would play it again especially with the Hot deals I get on Golflink.com

As of July 2016 the course and greens are in outstanding shape. The new owners Bill and Pat have poured their heart and soul into making this a wonderful facility. In addition to a well maintained facility they have significantly improved the quality of the food with a new chef and menu. In addition, at their expense, they host a weekly event for the Special Olympics and provide free group lessons and 9 holes of golf with carts for the Olympians and their adult playing partners. They also host the regional Special Olympics qualifying event donating their entire staff and facility for the day. Nothing says I care like giving. Go and play here...you'll enjoy the experience.

Cove Cay is a great golf course! There are some challenging holes, but every hole is fun! The views of the Tampa Bay are beautiful. This golf course is the only course near me that actually has beautiful water views. The golf course is looking so much better! Cove cay is a great place to play if you are looking for a beautiful, fun, nice, challenging golf course! I had an great day at cove cay and will be back soon!

Just awful. Chrt396 you must be good friends with the Shrivers, or an employee. You quit playing there because of conditions before, but you find it acceptable now? As to changing the public's opinion, that is a joke. Our league played there for years, but won't be back. The place is in terrible shape. Don't believe me chech the reviews on the golf sites. They are pretty bad. Greens are the worst I have seen them in 15 years of playing there. Bald spots are abundant, and Par 3 tees had ZERO grass on them. What happened? It was rough last year, just horrendous this year. The starter was a grumpy guy with a mustache that would be better suited as a cart guy who didn't come in contact with people. There were no Rangers, so our round took FIVE HOURS AND TWENTY FIVE MINUTES. Nothing tells a golfer a course doesn't care like no course staff in March. The group in front of us was slow, dressed in basketball shorts and tee shirts, drunk from being served by cart girl, and swearing constantly. We could not hit balls before the round, as the range was closed for a clinic. The new owners should worry less about painting the clubhouse and more about course conditions. Put some sand in the bunkers PLEASE. If this is what the new owners are looking for, count me out.

I've always loved the layout of the course at Cove Cay. It's a challenging course that can reward you when you hit a good shot and punish you terribly with a bad one. It;s very scenic with lots of water bordering the fairways and on the approaches, plus it has several of those nasty sand traps that act just like magnets to a mishit shot. It's a challenging course. I LOVE the layout!!!
I have not played this little gem for years, due to horrible course conditions and extremely rude personnel in the pro shop. It was a chore getting through 18 holes without shaking your head at the chewed up greens, nasty tee boxes and grassless fairways. WE had quit!!! We were DONE with Cove Cay.

Fast forward to 03-01-2015. Most Golfers have a short memory and can be forgiving..so we tried the course again. New owners have taken over and poured their heart and soul into this course. The owners are both PGA professionals and have brought their efforts to Cove Cay. The efforts show in the condition of the course. Now...I'm not saying that it's in perfect condition..but it's EXTREMELY playable. The tee boxes...although chewed up a bit by the hackers...are in good shape. They were level...and you could easily find a spot to get good footing. The fairways were in good shape. Not super lush...but still in good shape. The rough was...well..rough!! Very playable however!! There are a lot of pines on this course as well as oaks. If you visit the rough,,you might be hitting off pine straw or oak leaves as your base. But...when my buddy was complaining about it, I simply stated the obvious. "It's the rough! Hit it straight..and you won't have to B..ch and complain!" The greens were a little sandy...but here is the great part! The greens are fast and they roll true. The sandy APPEARANCE does NOT effect the roll of that ball. I love faster greens..and this course does NOT disappoint.

At the turn at 9, we visited the restaurant for a dog and coke..and price was reasonable and the bartender was very pleasant and efficient. I will say...I think there is a corroboration with the cart girl and the black birds on that course. If you have ANY food on your cart..you better hide it..cuz' those little ^&%$% will steal you blind! Do they make a shotgun that looks like a golf club? I want one! The big black bird is MINE next time I visit that course. I ate 1 cracker out of the package of 6!!!

We finished up in good time. We were a twosome....following a 4some. We were never held up for more than a minute and pace was great. I had the opportunity of speaking with Pat Shriver after 18 and I can tell that she and her husband take great pride in that course and that they are trying hard to change the golfing public's old perceptions. I just want to say, that I'm so so glad that the Shrivers have taken over and making such great strides in improving the courses condition.

We WILL be back!! LOVED IT!!

You couldn't pay me to play here again. Played on May 23rd '14. This course wasn't worth the $20 paid. Greens are unputtable and maintenance of fairways is pathetic. course seems to be deteriorating along with the condos surrounding. Course layout is challenging and pretty at times with views of the bay and lakes. Consider all other courses in the area before choosing Cove Cay. Nice staff and decent clubhouse food were about the best parts of our day.

am going to be in the area of this golf course in March with 20 other people and was trying to set up an event at this golf course since it looks really nice in pictures. called 4 days in a row and just got passed around and was just blown off the entire time. was told that they couldn't do anything for me so I just took my business elsewhere. good way to let go of 20 tee times and a lot of money being spent on drinks and food AND almost all 20 people needed rentals as well!!! horrible customer care

Came to Clearwater for one month in Jan of 2012. Pro shop very accommodating and helpful, always found me, single female golfer, a tee time. Course well maintained, challenging, great views of the bay. Cost reasonable.
