In summary, friendly staff, nice course with fairways in good shape, very large greens with tons of break and lots and lots and lots of sand bunkers. Keep it on the fairway -- there are sand bunkers everywhere. Greenside bunkers. Fairway bunkers - bunkers galore! My wife and I played Frog Hollow as kind of a driving break on our way home to NYC from Annapolis. We liked the course very much. Some greens were beat up, but we have had some tough weather this summer with rains, dry periods and hurricanes, so perhaps the condition of some greens is a temporary issue. The ranger was quite possibly the friendliest ranger we ever encountered. He knew it was our first time playing this course and gave us shot advice on some holes and some golf balls that he picked up along his travails (which husband needed due to some errant golf shots!). Scenery wasn't the greatest -- the large housing development is predictable and McMansionish (if that is a word!) -- but the course itself was nice. Price seemed reasonable - $43 per golfer with cart (at least reasonable to a New Yorker). Overall, a nice course, friendly staff, all at a reasonable price.
I have played Frog Hollow a handful of times in the past, and considered it to be an OK course. I played for the first time in 2010 this week and was pleasantly suprised. The golf course was in much better shape than my last visit in 2009. The greens are rolling as well as you can ask, and was in great overall condition. I had heard that the course was under new management and things seem to be moving in the right direction as both the golf and restaurant staff were very friendly and helpful. It is fairly priced, and worth stopping in the restaurant after golf. The food was great..I highly recommend the carb imperial melt! Overall, it was a great day and I will definitely be coming back with my group.
Frog Hollow is one my favorite courses to play in Delaware. The course is wide and open enough to be forgiving on most shots, but there are enough hazards to keep it challenging. The greens are quick and an easy putt is a rarity. The par 3's and 5's are pretty standard, however there are several par 4's that will really challenge you. Golf staff is extremely cordial, Kyle Mullen the Golf Pro is a genious when it comes to lessons. The neighborhood houses are somewhat of a distraction and take away from the scenery, but overall Frog Hollow is a great place to play and FOR THE MONEY YOU CANNOT BEAT IT.
