I started playing this course back in early eighties when I was stationed here at Castle. I have returned after 25 years and now play a few times a week. I freelance as a writer and have written seriesfor publications in the Midwest on there golf courses. It would be hard to find a more professional or courteous staff then Rancho Del Ray. The course itself is in excellent shape and fully matured. The prices are about as reasonable as you can get and a round of golf at this course is a day of enjoyment. You will be paired up with some of the friendliest golfers you will ever meet and in many ways it is almost like a private course. Everyoneseems to know one another and it is a great place to meet other golfers. The pace is pretty much what ever your desire, and if your looking for a fast nine or eighteen this is the spot to pick. The layout is forgiving for average golfers but there are definitelysome tricky holes. I love the back nine especially, by the time you hitthe tenth you got your game down and if your hitting the ball well you can definitely card some birds. Overall this is an excellent course for the price and you will be greeted at the desk with courtesy andrespect. These guys and the gals working the food and refreshmentsare the best. You go out and do a round at Rancho Del Ray you are in for a treat. Be careful on that first hole, its a par 5 and thatwater will come into play. But its the perfect set up to start yourround, successful golf courses have one thing in common. A starting hole that is interesting and one that kinda sets the tone for your day out. This par 5 has all of that and more. I have a blast every time I'm out here. I would recommend this course to all..........
I play here several times a year and recommend this course for anyone who wants a nice little challenge. The course has many old shade trees and is pleasant to play in the Summer. Those trees will eat your ball though, if you can't drive it straight. there are Enough water hazards to keep things interesting. The fairways are in good shape most of the time and the greens are well maintained and true, but unfortunately the players are not good about repairing spike or ball marks. The bar and restaraunt have good food and friendly staff. As courses go it's older and not perfect but pleasant and friendly. Just about every one I meet is nice to play a round with. Weekday and twilight rates are a good value and the course is easy to walk if you desire. Practice green and chipping area is good, Driving range is small but never too crowded.
