The Tournament Course at Burns Park Golf Course is considered the shorter and easier of two courses at the city park, but it offers its own fun challenges.

At 5,725 yards, the par-70 Tournament course provides an intriguing round of golf with a nice mix of holes over scenic property. The front nine is flat, for the most part, while the back nine is quite hilly so the contrast keeps your round exciting after the turn. Both sides offer a variety of straight, dogleg and twisting holes, as well as nine lakes that often come into play.

For example, the par-5 fifth hole features a double dogleg with trees on both sides of the fairway. While if may be tempting to cut the trees for a shot at birdie, your best bet is to play it safe with three shorter shots to the green. Then there are holes like the wide-open par-4 tenth hole, a nice straight shot from tee to green. It's a good opportunity to give your driver a swing because a little inaccuracy off the tee won't get you into too much trouble.

After the tenth hole, you'll face back-to-back par-5s with tight fairways. Expect to be challenged throughout your round but also allowed plenty of opportunities to score well to keep the course fun.

The Burns Park Golf Course is very well-manicured on both the greens and fairways. The rolling greens are fast and the great conditions make them a joy to play. This course really has never looked better when it comes to maintenance.

Given the great conditions and interesting layout, the course is an excellent value. Play 18 holes with a cart for under $35. Twilight specials and other discounts are available throughout the year.

In addition to the Tournament Course, Burns Park also offers the longer Championship Course, a driving range and FootGolf, a hybrid of golf and soccer. Ask the friendly staff in the pro shop for details.

Be sure to check out Burns Park next time you are in the North Little Rock area. It offers two great courses at a price that can't be beat.
